The author uses a lot of visual details. One of the examples of visual imagery is the description of Della’s hair: “…it fell about her, rippling and shining like a cascade of brown waters. It reached below her knee and made itself almost a garment for her.” Another example is the description of the fob chain: “It was a platinum fob chain simple and chaste in design, properly proclaiming its value by substance alone and not by meretricious ornamentation as all good things should do. It was even worthy of The Watch.” The writer uses visual imagery to convey the uniqueness of these things and their value for the characters.
